Evaluating Scope 1 and Scope 2 GHG Emissions as a Path to Reducing Your Carbon Footprint

The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has recently proposed rule amendments that require many large businesses to include climate-related information as part of business registration documents and periodic reports, including the reporting of Scope 1 and Scope 2 Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions. Investors have started to weigh the GHG impacts of the businesses in which they choose to invest, as well as their plans to reduce those impacts.

Many businesses already disclose their emissions using protocols that classify emissions by scope. The SEC is seeking to standardize the information that is provided, such that all businesses will be required to include this information.

This presentation will cover the basics for business entities to determine their GHG emissions using accepted disclosure frameworks, including the GHG Protocol and EPA standards. The discussion will include how to define the scope of GHG emissions for reporting and the basics for how to prepare and submit a GHG inventory.

SCAQMD Rule 1147 Series: NOx limits for Miscellaneous Combustion Sources, Aggregate Dryers, and Metal Melting and Heating Furnaces

On-road vehicles have a myriad of requirements in California. This webinar will provide an overview of the existing regulations and upcoming requirements from new and future regulations. The California Air Resources Board (CARB) has adopted new smoke test requirements and is developing multiple vehicle turnover requirements under the Advanced Clean Fleet (ACF) regulation for Public, Federal, and High-Priority (Large-Entity) Fleets, which will require the transition to 100% zero emission technologies by 2035, where feasible.

SCAQMD Rule 1147 regulates nitrogen oxides (NOx) emissions from miscellaneous combustion equipment. Recent rule amendments include additional equipment, such as microturbines, autoclaves, tunnel dryers, absorption chillers, and tunnel kilns.

  • Rule 1147.1 regulates NOx from Aggregate Dryers and was adopted in August 2021.
  • Rule 1147.2 regulates NOx from Metal Heating and Melting Furnaces.

Regional Clean Air Incentives Market (RECLAIM) facilities that have previously been exempt from the NOx requirements of these rules will become subject to them as the RECLAIM program winds down. These rules establish Best Available Retrofit Control Technology (BARCT) emission standards that RECLAIM facilities will have to meet in the future.

In this webinar, we will review some fleet incentive programs and their program structure, needed records, application processes, funding amounts, and program timelines for the delivery of vehicles and funds. Funding programs include Carl Moyer, VW Mitigation Trust, HVIP, CORE, and FARMER, which provide:

  • Replacement of existing vehicles with cleaner and/or zero emission vehicles;
  • Voucher programs for discounted zero emission vehicle purchases; and
  • Infrastructure Incentives.

Join us as we provide a roadmap on how to seek funds for early adoption of zero emission vehicles and/or replacement of older vehicles.

SCAQMD Warehouse Operator Indirect Source Rule, Approved Rule 2305

Warehouse Operators in buildings that have a total of 100,000 square feet or more of indoor floor space are required to submit an Initial Site Information Report (ISIR) to the South Coast Air Quality Management District (SCAQMD). Additionally, Warehouse Operators with at least 50,000 square feet of warehousing activities must track truck trips to the warehouse, start earning WAIRE Points to offset indirect emissions from these truck trips, and submit Annual WAIRE Reports.
This webinar will cover the applicability of the Warehouse Rule, the ISIR, WAIRE points, and annual WAIRE reporting. Additionally, we will discuss the basics of truck trip tracking and methods to earn WAIRE points.

SB-14 Hazardous Waste Source Reduction and Management Review

California’s SB 14 requirements are often overlooked due to their 4-year documentation cycle and the disappearance of the Summary Progress Report submission requirement some years ago. However, the statutory requirements remain in effect and are subject to both Certified Unified Program Agency (CUPA) and direct Department of Toxic Substances Control (DTSC) scrutiny during inspections of subject facilities. For most facilities, the next round of SB 14 documentation updates must be completed by September 1, 2023, and requires creating three documents: the Source Reduction Evaluation Review and Plan (Plan), Hazardous Waste Management Performance Report (Performance Report), and Summary Progress Report (SPR). This 1-hour webinar will summarize SB 14 applicability, requirements, and tips for compliance, as well as good practices to avoid difficulties in document development.

CUPA Inspections: Preparing and What to Expect for 2023 Inspections

As the pandemic (hopefully) recedes, Certified Unified Program Agency (CUPA) inspectors are getting back in the field after a period of mostly desktop and drive-by reviews. Coupled with this is a long-term evolution in California’s Unified Program, which is leading to an increased focus on enforcement methods at the individual CUPA level. Learn about the most common inspection findings, enforcement trends, and how to deal with the inevitable knock-on-the-door regarding hazardous waste, hazardous materials, Underground Storage Tanks (USTs), and other CUPA programs.

Personal Exposure Monitoring
California Code of Regulations (CCR) Title 8 Section 5155 requires that air monitoring be performed if there is a possibility of exposure to airborne contaminants that may exceed the regulatory levels listed in Table AC-1. Some chemicals require establishing a baseline exposure by performing initial air monitoring. There are so many chemicals in a workplace, how do you prioritize which monitoring should be performed? It is best to approach your air monitoring by formulating a logical plan of attack. This webinar will walk through the process of developing and implementing an industrial hygiene monitoring plan.

Cal/OSHA Inspections: What are Inspectors Looking For?

The California Division of Occupational Safety and Health, better known as Cal/OSHA, enforces workplace health and safety regulations in California. It is the largest state OSHA plan in the nation, with a goal of conducting over 7,500 inspections per year. Did you know that Cal/OSHA inspectors can arrive unannounced? Do you know what to expect if they came knocking on your door? In this webinar, we will discuss what triggers a Cal/OSHA inspection, what to expect during and after an inspection, and implications of Cal/OSHA’s new expanded enforcement authority that went into effect on January 1, 2022. We will also give advice on how you can best prepare for an unexpected visit.

CAL/OSHA Injury and Illness Prevention Program (IIPP) – The Start of a Great Safety Program

The Injury and Illness Prevention Program (IIPP) is required by California Code of Regulations (CCR) Title 8 Section 3203. This regulation requires employers to create, document, and implement a safety management system, creating a proactive process to find and reduce workplace hazards before injuries occur. Research has shown such programs can be effective in transforming workplace culture and reducing illnesses and injuries to employees.
This webinar will discuss the implications of Section 3203’s hazard recognition requirement, the elements of an effective IIPP, and available resources to support the creation of the program.
