CARB Heavy-Duty Vehicle Inspection and Maintenance Program (Clean Truck Check Program)

Smoke tests for diesel vehicles are transitioning from the Periodic Smoke Inspection Program (PSIP) requirement of once per year to the Heavy-Duty Inspection and Maintenance Program (HD I/M) requirement of twice per year. The first HD I/M report and annual fees will be due in 2023, and DMV renewals will be tied to HD I/M reporting and compliance. The HD I/M Program expands the applicability to also include out of state registered vehicles, such that HD I/M applies to all California operated vehicles, regardless of DMV registration state California. This webinar will provide an overview of the smoke test transition and guidance for preparing the first inventory report (for private and public fleets). We will also discuss the option of On-Board Diagnostic (OBD) reports in lieu of smoke tests.
